Glen has been featured in the 2019/20, Warren Miller 70th ski film “Timeless” in a PSIA (Professional Ski Industries of America) segment. Snow Magazine featured an article, and Multiple Podcasts broadcasts that Glen continues to promote the sport of snowskiing. He’s a host of History Channels’ “Truck Night in America” 2 seasons completed 24 episodes. In June 2019 Glen was named one of the Top 10 Male Freeskier’s of All-Time by SnowBrains. At Mammoth Mountain’s annual motocross event 2019 Glen was given the award for “Sport’s Pioneer”. “Skiing, mountaineering and my other “distractions” can be summed up with this word - “Adventurer” in snow or when it melts.....
Filming in Chamonix, France exposed Glen to the world of mountaineering and following in the traditions of extreme skiing, he has had the success of first descents in the Sierra Nevada's of California, all over Europe, Japan, North/South America, and Asia. “Skiing 50 degree slopes at 20,000 ft is a game where the rules have not changed.”
Glens continual quest to promote the sport also leads him to other unlikely ski places “Americas Heartland”. He and his wife, Kimberly, travel to the smaller ski areas in North America in grass roots form, they call it the “DownHome Tour” skiing with other skiers at their “home/local mountains” Glen says “It gets me stoked to see the enthusiasm at these little hills, we have been to around 200 of them, some of which may only be 200 ft high.”
This has allowed Glen to see what skiers need or want and with the support of Elan, Roxa, Pit Viper, Leki, Screamer, Mammoth Mountain, Mammoth Lakes Tourism, Transpack bags, and Kuhl clothing, this has led him towards the development and design of new award winning products that skiers need and use today.
“DownHome Tours” Famous for surprise visits to local ski areas:
Glen and Kimberly are skiing vagabonds living continuously on the road basing their North American skiing at Mammoth Mountain, California and Chamonix France when they are in Europe, they built an off grid home in northern Nevada for training during the shoulder seasons.
Glen is not only a snow skier; he is an endurance road cyclist, competing in The Silver State 508 race, “The 508” is an event that is defined as the “hardest 48 hours in sport” it is a one stage race of 508 miles that must be completed within 48 hours. In 2024, he was inducted into the SS508 Hall of Fame; Glen also is reigning Champion and Record holder in 40+, a solo finisher 3 times. He was Awarded Sportsman of the Year in 2022.
Glen is a National Champion Waterskier in both Slalom and marathon waterski racing“skiing at over 100 mph”, took 2nd at the Belgium Diamond Race 2024.
Ski racing and being named to the US National Ski Team as a mogul specialist, thissharpened his technical skills; mix that with California’s lifestyle and you have Glen. With the success of the ski films, the possibility of being a professional free skier became reality, until then the title “pro skier” came only with FIS race results. “It never made sense to me that the best “skiers” on the hill couldn’t even get free skis even though everybody wanted to ski like them.”
Working with believers/sponsors Glen began to change peoples perception of pro sports, he was honored as the ESPN “Pioneer of Action Sports” opening the door for many of todays heroes. “It has been a great journey and responsibility that I take very seriously and devote every day too, I have been blessed with the ability to inspire people but I have to keep inspiring myself”.
“Learn A Snow Sport” First Spokesman
The first time on skis at age two had a lasting impression on Glen Plake, he has dedicated his whole life to the sport. Growing up in California’s Sierra Nevadamountains it is easy to understand Glen’s unconventional thinking and unique place in the sport of snowskiing. “California is not your typical place for a skier to be from” as a featured skier in Greg Stumps films notably “Blizzard of Aahhh’s” and “License to Thrill”, “Fistful of Moguls” during this Glen was exposed and introduced to Chamonix, and to the snowskiing world “I wasn’t trying to prove anything, I just loved skiing and I guess it really showed through on film”.
